Academic Advising

Academic Support Coordinators

The primary functions of the Academic Support Coordinators are to foster successful transition to the university environment by students in their initial semesters, promote major exploration to ensure students choice of appropriate major, foster students engagement with faculty advisors/mentors at critical points, and promote timely graduation. The Academic Support Coordinators supplement the faculty advising role with students. Because of the distinctive characteristics and needs of first year students, the Academic Support Coordinators typically interact with students more frequently in the initial semesters while faculty advisors/mentors interact more frequently with students in later semesters. Academic Support Coordinators, in collaboration with faculty, play a critical role in promoting undergraduate student success. The Academic Support Coordinators work directly with students majoring in NAFS and HM in order to foster their academic success by developing, implementing and monitoring an action plan for success. The Academic Support Coordinators' duties include (but are not limited to): advising students, connecting students to faculty, maintaining student records, interacting with faculty members and partnering with campus offices. The Academic Support Coordinators work closely with the Assistant Department Head, Dietetic Program Director, Hospitality Management Program Coordinator and other advising staff, and report to the FSHN Department Head.

Please schedule an appointment with your assigned Academic Support Coordinator by using the online FSHN Advising Application. If you can’t find a time to meet with your assigned Academic Support Coordinator, please contact your Academic Support Coordinator via phone or email to try to make other arrangements.
